CareEdge Ratings (Africa) rated Evaco Group as part of its credit assessment process, providing valuable information to investors. Evaco is committed to environmental sustainability and has a roadmap in place to reduce emissions intensity and achieve Net Zero. The group also prioritises reducing its carbon footprint, improving water efficiency, and optimizing energy use.
Green PowerX has been appointed by Evaco Group to conduct an assessment on Scope 1, 2 and 3.
The report will be published online shortly.

Carbon Intensity
The degree of cleanliness of our electricity can be measured by carbon intensity. It indicates the quantity of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in grams that are released to generate each kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity. Electricity generated from fossil fuels tends to have a higher carbon intensity due to the production process which results in the release of CO2 emissions. It is necessary to reduce global carbon emissions by 45 % by 2030 from 2010 levels, and sustain a steep decline thereafter to ultimately achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Water Efficiency
Water efficiency maximizes the value obtained from available water resources by reducing consumption, pollution, and environmental impact in goods and services production and water service provision. Improving water efficiency means increasing water productivity by reducing water use intensity, optimizing water allocation, and improving the technical and management efficiency of water services while ensuring environmental sustainability.
Evaco Group has also embarked on a sustainable rainwater harvesting system to maximize water efficiency. Download presentation
Energy efficiency
Energy efficiency refers to the measure of how effectively energy is used to perform a specific task while minimizing energy waste. It is considered a key strategy for mitigating climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as it helps to reduce the overall demand for energy, lower energy consumption, and decrease the environmental impact associated with energy production and use.
Climate Change Strategy
The climate change strategy is a comprehensive set of actions aimed at addressing the causes, impacts, and challenges associated with climate change. It includes a series of strategic measure to reduce greenhouse gases, adapt to climate change, promote sustainable development, and protect vulnerable populations.
Biodiversity
Biodiversity is crucial for sustainable development and human well-being.
Biodiversity encompasses the diversity of life on Earth, including genetic variations, species diversity, and ecosystem diversity. It is crucial for sustainable development and human well-being. It provides food, water, jobs, and resilience to climate change. Biodiversity and healthy ecosystems are crucial for multiple SDG goals, including SDG 14 (life below water), SDG 15 (life on land), and SDG 2 (zero hunger) that relies on pollinators for agriculture.
Environmental Management System
The Environmental Management System is a set of processes that help organisations reduce environmental impacts and improve operational efficiency. It requires systematic and continuous efforts for improvement and development towards ecological sustainability, which is an ongoing journey with new achievements and challenges.
